Recess?! They get to have recess? Aw man, I wish my work had recess. And now on to the fun.

Those immigrant peeps got a pat on the head. Guess that’s what they call throwing someone a bone. Thank you Mr. Dodd for realizing the military the CIA don’t need a reason to work together or even have ties that bind. Joe (Lieberman)? What’s up man? Lastly, Rosa and a good many others tried to stop a vote that would allow a strip of coastal land in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from being drilled… Yea, for oil.

CT Reps Vote - May 22, 2006

A few days late, sorry about that. Here’s the latest from the CT reps… Dodd and Lieberman voted no “to declare English as the national language” but yes “to declare English is the common and unifying language”. Way to walk the fence boys. Take a stand, oh, looks like you did… And you were on the wrong side of what most people would say is the big one - declaring English as the national language.

Ms. DeLauro hasn’t had her chance to make her opinion known to the public. What’s it going to be Rosa? Are you playing with the boys in the sandbox or are you standing on your own two feet? This should have been decided voted on ages ago.

Residents Policing Residents with Radar Guns

eye tyrantWhy lookie lookie. Immediate follow up to last nights question/rant about who to call when a police officer does something wrong. A group of suburbanite soccer moms have decided to help crack down on speeding in their neighborhood.

While this may be an interesting idea… Go home! I don’t want or need your peer pressure to drive slower. 32 in a 25?! Has anyone revisited the speed limit? Perhaps 30 should be the new speed limit. Maybe 35 even. Someone going 20 over the limit definitely needs some attention but 5-7 mph over? That could happen without trying.

Allan Reid of Indianapolis has the following to say about a news story out of his neck of the woods… “There are always wannabe cops running around, people who lust for the power… …It is human nature to abuse power… There needs to be some kind of accountability…” — Allan W. Reid, attorney, Indianapolis

This quote should freak anyone out:
“Oh, look. He’s going 32. The mailman is going 32,” she said. “I didn’t think they go that fast.” Heck was excited.
“I’ll get him. It’s a government vehicle. The police like getting them.”

When a Cop Does Something Wrong Call…

Categories: blog

police questThe other day I was cruising along on the highway along with a handful of others when I noticed a car creeping up in my rear view mirror… A cop, a 5-0, a b&w, a police officer. “Guess I better move over.” I hit the blinker and move over… VROOOOM! The copper flew by.

What the hell?! Why the lights on the roof weren’t on I don’t know. He, the 5-0, kept zooming along and the other peeps on the road moved over as he got close. Still no lights. Odd.

Friends have told me that while they sat at an intersection they watched a cop approach saw the lights flipped on, put put put through, and then soon after flipped em off. Enh? Why would someone do that?

)a hand shoots up into the air as if wanting to be called on(

OHHH! I know! Abuse of power, lack of responsibility, selfishness, etc. Often I’ve seen police officers NOT leading by example in their vehicles and not. Last week while driving around in Prospect, CT I saw a state trooper on his cell phone turning onto RT 69 south bound. Why aren’t they leading by example?

This is a serious question. Honestly, who reports a police officer for speeding? … Can anyone answer that question? Who tickets a police officer for blatantly ignoring a stop sign in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY down by the recycle center? Better yet, HOW does one advise the powers that be that this type of thing is happening?

watchmenI am serious with my questions. These are not rhetorical. Who watches the Watchmen? (details here) Sure there is Internal Affairs but they’re not going to spend time making sure every copper is obeying the traffic laws. Please. They are working on far bigger topics that involve other abuses of power. Yea to them.

So I ask again for anyone out there a police officer willing to divulge the deepest secrets for we the peons citizens you “serve and protect” or, if someone else out there knows the answers to these questions I beg of you please tell me what is a citizen to do?

Also, how do we praise the officers that are respectful and helpful in the line of duty? They deserve the praise of the community they are helping.

City at Peace NY - R.I.P. (Revolution in Progress)

city at peaceLast night was a world at peace. A world where people could poke fun at each other despite their genealogy and/or social status. It was a city at peace.
The graduate seminar class on 03/03/06 introduced me to Paul Griffin, Founder, City at Peace. City at Peace is an innovative international program working with young people to create musical theatre projects created out of their experiences.

We had a discussion on how to market CaP better because it is such a phenomenal idea. Paul said that finding funding was very difficult. “No wonder.” I thought. None of the investors can see what is happening so they only hear an artist talking about some artsy thing with kids. The conversation lasted for maybe 10 minutes. At that point I had to leave and he had to talk with John Dillon since he was the reason Paul was at SLC.

During Paul’s introduction of CaP to the SLC Theatre grad students he mentioned the dates for the NY production. A few people voiced their interest in seeing the show. I was one of them. I noted the dates in my head and promptly wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget forgot a few days later.
A few weeks passed. I was involved with a production and so my focus went to where it was needed most - work, the show, aka my life.

Happily something kicked at my brain. For some reason I found myself searching for the name of ‘that organization’ that guy talked about at the grad seminar. It took a while. Then I thought to look in my iCal… Voila. City at Peace.

city at peace ripPaul had told us about the NYC production. I very much so forgot what it was about. = ) It was good that I had. With a fresh mind, traffic, a maze of turns never leading to the road needed. emma and I found our way, with 2 minutes to spare, to the theatre.

1 hour 45 minutes of revolution took place on stage. Normally I would critique performance(s), direction, etc. but with this show that’s not what it’s about. The show was about my favorite quote and one of my favorite philosophies…

The quote - Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. said “Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.”

The philosophy - I’m okay, you’re okay. (check out the book)
Last night was a mixed crowed of all races. The intended point was achieved.

If you hear about City at Peace in your area or are in the area when a CaP production is running - see the show. The kids that create each piece have infused their own lives and their own experiences to show us that it’s great being different. We’re all lucky to have the opportunity to express opposing views and even live different lives because we are all living through the same things. Nothing is identical. Then again, you might change your mind after seeing what these kids go through. It just might feel as though they’re re-enacting your life on stage even though they don’t even know your name.
