BULBA
Monday, December 12 – 7:30 p.m. (2005),Sound and Movement Room, Upstairs in PAC The SLC Theatre Program invites you to a reading of a new play, BULBA, by student Daniel Kelley. Our guest director, Ted Sod, is also a screenwriter, producer and actor. The cast features Sam Anderson, Eelum Dixit, Brad Harris, Katie Hartman, Neil Knox, Rene Migliaccio, Gary Ploski, Nick Schroeder, and Ashley Weaver. BULBA is a heartwarming tale of Cossack father-son bloodlust in the playfully nihilistic expanse of the Ukraine, circa “Ye Olden Times”, and just in time for the holidays! Full of swordplay, true love scorned, whole cities under siege, original music by Nehemiah Luckett and far too many babies, Bulba is the perfect holiday Cossack coming-out play for the whole family!

Production experience

I very much dislike staged readings. The point of a reading is to hear the text not see the show. Rehearsals lasted eight hours a day for two days. Lunch breaks were 30 minutes. These elements added to the unhappiness side of this show.

The happy side was the show. A cast of nearly all men performing a comedic love story of sorts. Daniel Kelly has a fun quirky way of writing. I was lucky to have performed in one of his shows before he graduated.
