Personal Reaction

Like many actors I had at times the fleeting desire to direct. Within one year I knew I needed something more than that fleeting desire. I walked into Dave McRee’s class thinking I would walk out a better director. Instead, I walked out a better actor.

Dave walked us through steps on how to be a director. In nearly each class I felt myself thinking as an actor. I realized where my present limitations and skills were throughout this year long class. Also, after directing a 10 minute play I realized I do not want to direct.

Acting is in my blood and while at times I find myself thinking as a director I know it is an idea I am happy to express versus planning out the whole of a piece.

Update: Spring 2006

Revisiting this idea I realize that while it is more likely that I will find myself acting the thought of fully owning a show is a possibility in my future. With the experience of having seen, read, and performed in more shows I have found my desires, at times, craving to helm the position of director. What show would I be interested in directing and when? I do not know the answer to either question.
