Dave McRee’s class introduced me to live theatre. Jame’s Shearwood’s class brought me into the fold within the American walls of writing. Before I signed up for Jame’s class I knew it was pivotal for me to learn about the history of theatre in some way. Jame’s class gave me a unique opportunity to focus first on American theatre.

I walked away knowing a great deal more about my roots and how tales, struggles, and glory was experienced by way of theatre in America from the early 1900’s through the 1960’s.

The class title confused me a great deal because of the word – Could. The plays we read did change the nation. I may not have enjoyed all the readings but that point is moot when faced with the realization that those plays affected the American population.

With this insight now a part of my theatre education I am happy to know I was right in asking James to allow me into his class mid-year. The next thing I see necessary in my education is a broader range of theatre history and the people and plays that created it.
