THE POETICS OF LIZZIE BORDEN
Monday, November 15 – 7:00 pm (2004), Frances Ann Cannon Workshop Theatre, P.A.C. The Theatre Program invites you to a reading of a new play, THE POETICS OF LIZZIE BORDEN, by Blake Starbuck Rogers, directed by Allen Lang, featuring Liz Fraatz, Gary Ploski and Becca Schall. At the brutal murder of her mother and her father, Lizzie Borden exclaimed, “I am the new God of American History.” In this dark poetic comedy, sex, religion, and violence gracefully melt into one in tracing modern America’s loss of “family values”– through the eyes of one of its most treasured murderers. A modern day Greek tragedy, THE POETICS OF LIZZIE BORDEN, will be followed by a brief discussion, moderated by Edward Allan Baker.
Production experience
My first SLC reading. With three actors, three chairs, and three music stands my first reading was under my belt. The joy of the show was fully experienced when someone said they were uncomfortable watching me perform a portion of the text. Mission accomplished.
