And then it was over. More than one year ago I was asked to take part in ‘War Music’ by Michael Early. Today I find myself sitting around wondering what to do next. The text is amazing. The show went over well with everyone that attended. And I, along with the cast, learned a great deal. Give that a great to Tony the Tiger.

emma was the repeat queen of the show. She was at all three which was so fortunate for me, and the cast, because she didn’t just got for me, she enjoyed the show abundantly! Jokes were made about her attendance. T’was a very kind of joking around. The question of whether this kind of thing was in our nuptials or not was laughed about. Nope… I’m just lucky is all. Very lucky.

Drawbacks? Yup. My face feels like it’s being stabbed by hundreds of needles under and around my eyes. It seems that we all had a reaction to the make-up. Gold powder does that I guess. Honestly Happily that is/was the worst of the experience. There were moments during the rehearsal process that were very difficult. Nothing new in that of course.

I have some pics that will be posted soon enough. I’ve been trying to repair a dead hdd all week. ALL WEEK. I want to throw the towel in but 93% of the drive has been scanned/repaired. Time to relax, shower, and then head over to a dance piece that my coworker Emily Sharp is in. Merde!

To everyone that attended the show from near and far I’d like to thank you so very much. It was (to date) my favorite SLC piece. There are talks about doing the full piece instead of just the first part… Time will tell if this can or will happen.

war-musicI am extremely excited to announce a performance of War Music. Sarah Lawrence College’s Acting the Poetic Text (professor Michael Early) class presents WAR MUSIC: Patrocleia (an account of books 16-19 of Homer’s Iliad) by Christopher Logue.

No music, no scene changes, no cross fades. This is a story that will be told by 7 actors (Le’Mil Eiland, Kathleen Kreiser, Aaron Matteson, Rachel McKay, Tess Mix, Alison Walls and Gary Ploski) with nothing but 4 stools, 3 chairs, and their bodies. Seating is limited as this is a black production. Expect to be a part of the show war. Please sign up in the PAC at SLC or advise me so I can put you on the list ASAP. (Update: There is no sign-up sheet.)

April 27 (Thursday)
April 28 (Friday)

The other day I had a conversation with someone about… get this… computers. More specifically - laptops. We discussed individual needs/wants. I asked more questions than I voiced my opinions. She was looking to buy a laptop but wasn’t sure what to get.

Nearly everyone wants to do a few things… E-Mail, type documents, and browse the web. I don’t know what the statistics are but this is the large majority vast majority of what the average everyday user needs/wants. She then described herself as an average user.

The word average is funny to me. Politicians know we all talk about describe ourselves as average and they play up to that in their speeches. Everyone is average; at least that’s how we all see ourselves.

I make 25k a year, rent a place, have a car, have a stable job. I’m an average American.

I make 90k a year, own a home, ride the train/metro, have a cell phone and high speed Internet. I’m an average American.

It goes on and on. No matter what Americans want to be average. I can’t speak on other cultures.

The other day a theatre friend stood out among a group of graduate theatre students because he said ‘I’m a great writer. That’s all.’ He then added something like ‘We’re all really good why doesn’t anyone say that?’ It’s a great question. Why don’t we. When we’re good. When we’re really good at something we often play it down.

Is this cultural? Are we led to believe that instead of riding the wave of confidence we’ll get further with commonality? Too many questions.

war-musicI bought a pair of linen pants for War Music today. I laughed when emma grabbed a pair off the rack. I asked what size did you take? “Medium.” Medium. I tried four pair on… 2 medium fit fine. 1 small fit but was a little snug and the other small didn’t fit at all.

Medium linen pants. Yup, right in the middle.

I often describe myself as an average guy. I’m not. At all. I work out often. I eat well. I can do things on a PC that most people would look at as if it were a collage of optical illusions. I’m not the smartest by any means and I can learn a whole bunch of course but I’m not average. I like a wide variety of music.

I am 5′11″ which is a couple inches taller than the average height for an American male - 69.2 inches, or 5 feet 9.2 inches. On the other hand I am FAR from the 189.9 lb. average weight. At 155-160 lbs. I’m a bit off the ‘average’ mark. Numbers are provided by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted from 1999-2002.

I used to think I was pretty average. Yup, I’m tooting my own horn and this is where most people get annoyed or disgusted or simple scoff. I’m happy with my me. I don’t want to be average. Sure, it’s easier to get by being average, but for me, it just isn’t entertaining enough. It just isn’t challenging enough. With that vent out of the way it’s time for bed. Thump.

15 Aug 2005 Pix Galore
 |  Category: blog, events, site news  | Leave a Comment

It took a couple hours due to various struggles with the net but I’m
happy to report that new pix are finally online. June, July, and August
are now all accounted for in 2005. I have to scan in some pix for April
and May - but that’s another task for another time. The gallery is
loading a bit slowly when selected. Why? It is due to the new
“features” in 1.5. Soon 1.5.1 will be released. I’m keeping my fingers
crossed that it will address the page load speed issue.

Skydiving, Pat and Suzanne’s wedding, more football catching at 21,
11o1 renovations are all accounted for. Well, not exactly (11o1 pix
will be uploaded after the housewarming this weekend 8/20-8/21). Browse
safely.
